You guys- it has been a ROUGH week.
First Julian, who hasn’t been sick in over a year, caught a pretty wicked cold that was accompanied by a fever. He has yet to learn to sneeze with his mouth covered or cough anywhere but the closest persons face (we’re working on it you guys), but you can guess what happened next.
I got sick.
The most annoying part is that I have an awesome immune system and before having Julian only got sick about once every 5 years. Now, every time the kid gets the sniffles I’m following suit. Still, I can’t complain too much especially considering this is his first illness in over a year. We got through it and that’s all that matters.
Except it feels like between catching up from our vacation last week and being sick this week I’m so behind on both the big and little things. So here’s to catching up, slowly, and getting back on the grind. With that said, here’s what we’ve been loving this week…
THIS WEEK’S “FAVE FIVE”
Want/Need: For some reason I had it in my head that once we returned from vaca I needed to get Julian a booster seat for the dining room table. As soon as I decided on one (which took forever) and it arrived I was pumped. The he used it and I realized this was definitely a want and not a need. While he looks super cute eating with us, the high chair really would have been fine for a few more months and we’re still using it for breakfast and snacks (and the occasional lunch/dinner). But he does look super cute, doesn’t he:
I asked for some mom advice and got some great tips from other mama’s also boosting at the dining room table but after seeing this one from COMPANY I was sold. Plus I had a gift certi from Toys R Us burning a hole in my pocket so we went for it. We LOVE IT! It’s installed in seconds out of the box, is ridiculously secure (much to Julian’s disappointment and so much more secure than his high chair, looks so comfy, and again, is so so cute! Find it on Amazon HERE.
Wear: This week we’ve been wearing LOTS of big boy undies. I’m happy to say that even though we still have accidents, they are becoming far and few between and at least for number one’s (sorry if it’s too TMI but you’re on a mom blog so…) he’s pretty potty trained. HOORAY! We still have panicky number two sessions (sorry, again) and are going to start doing outside trips without diapers or pull ups. I’m not ready to write my “this is how I potty trained the boy” post yet but if you have questions feel free to shoot me a note either here or on IG.
As far as what he’s been wearing, it’s been a bit of everything. We started out with undies from Green Sprouts but he outgrew those pretty quickly, which is a shame because visually they are my fave and they’ve been the softest he’s owned. Not in love with these from Fruit of the Loom but they are generous with the sizing and Julian likes the weird monsters so, they’ve been sticking around. My mom got him some from Osh Kosh for his bday but omgosh do they run small. Or maybe baby’s just got back…who knows. My fave right now are these plain ones from Fruit of the Loom. Soft after the initial wash and they just look so classic!
Read: This week we’ve been all about the Cars and Trucks Richard Scarry book. It was one of the only gifts we brought with us to Cali for Julian and even though he didn’t seem to instantly fall in love with it while on vacation, the second we got home he was all about that book. At first I was a little underwhe, med because I’m so used to his anthologies but time has flown during our reading sessions as we point out all the silly cars and people. Julian is getting so much more expressive so seeing him explore this new book has been a treat!
Eat: We’ve been in power foods mode thanks to our dual sicknesses. We’ve basically gone back and forth between eating sweet potatoes and big bowls of fruit. No one is complaining!
Play: We’ve had so many fun play sessions this week. From using play dough as dirt with his brand new super cheap construction cars, to driving his wooden bus on daily excursions (the sofa cushions are the zoo and under the sofa is home), to simply listening to music on his new headphones- play has been extra fun this week. I can’t wait to share some of the fun ways we’ve been playing with and utilizing some of the new things we’ve gotten for his birthday, but for now all I’ll say is this: the magna doodle is the cheapest and best toy I’ve ever purchased, ever.
So that’s this week’s Fave Five! What are you loving this week??
