Munchkin Meals

This seemed like fun, and since Logan’s been eating stuff that’s starting to qualify as interesting, here we go! For reference, he’s 8 months as of July 1st. This fun project is hosted by Brittany at A Healthy Slice of Life, who has a little munchkin that’s a month older than Logan. :D

Logan’s breakfast entailed mozzarella/cheddar cheese, cut-up cherries and broccoli florets. He was pretty enthusiastic about it at first, but he didn’t get into the cheese much. It’s a work in progress. I offer it up about twice a week.

Just to prove I definitely don’t make up his initial enthusiasm :D :

Lunch is usually something simple – he gets cheerios and other finger snack food, and he also had about half a pouch of this:

He loves basically all flavors of Plum Organics. They, and baby yogurt are my go-to things when he doesn’t seem in the mood for table food. He ALWAYS eats a ton of the pouches, and yogurt is probably his favorite food, ever.

We ended up going to a 4th of July event in Bellevue for a few hours and had some Red Mango frozen yogurt there. Logan ate about half my mango and strawberry toppings, but I didn’t remember to take a picture of it. I’m really quite new at this food blogging thing.

We tried something new for dinner – a turkey meatball, blueberries and finger food. It was his first time eating meatball (the husband and I had them too) and his second time eating blueberries.

He’s pretty picky about what berries he likes. He loves any and all of them in purees, but as for raw berries… he flat out denies raspberries, and this is what I’ve dubbed his blueberry face…:

That said, he does eat blueberries, and I think it’s just an initial hurdle. I’m pretty blessed that – so far – he isn’t a picky eater. *knock on wood* He’s a lot more likely yo go after finger food than the real food I offer up, but he always at least feeds himself a few bites of everything. Sometimes I hit the jackpot and find something he loves, in which case he eats the whole plate. :D

Happy belated July 4th – it was a beautiful end to the day over here.

We’ve finally figured out something that works for us! We’re doing a mixture of baby-led weaning that seems to be so popular in the blog world right now, and purees. Since Logan hates being spoonfed, we give him Plum Organics pouches, that he can hold and suck on. They’re amazing, and he loves almost all the flavors we’ve tried so far.

He definitely loves feeding himself, and it helps so much when we’re going out to be able to put him in a high chair and give him bits of vegetables from my plate. It keeps him occupied and happy and he loves tasting new things. He surprisingly isn’t a fan of pureed vegetables, but loves them whole. I’m pretty much the same way, though, so I can’t blame him. Our new favorites are green beans!

Our move is almost complete – all that’s left to do is to get the last bits of stuff from our old place, and clean it up. We’re cheating and hiring a cleaning service, since we’re limited on time, it’s hard to get babysitting, and our old place is pretty dirty. I’ll be so happy when it’s done, since it’s been really stressful on both of us, and I’m sure the bean notices when things are awry.

Our new place on the other hand is fantastic. I can’t wait for my boy to grow up here.

We have a view of the Cascades from our living room, there’s natural light coming through every large window, the air is clean, there’s a park right in front of our door, the place itself is large and we’re surrounded by other young families. Little bean has made a perfect transition. Even the sleep pattern is evolving again – we now have a bedtime of 7:30pm and sleep until about 6:30am. There’s anywhere from 2-4 night wakings each night, but hey, that’s what you sign up for when you have a baby I guess. He’s been incredibly happy the past two weeks, which is completely awesome to watch.

We have the sitting up thing down now. He’s nowhere near as… slouchy as he used to be, and he sits up for long periods of time. I still don’t like to leave him alone when he does, but we’re definitely getting to the completely independent sitting stage.

While we don’t have a crawler quite yet, we’ve been making amazing progress. Logan’s never been a great tummy-timer, but lately he’s acing it, rolling every which way and doing full mini-pushups.

In perhaps a month or two, we might be closer to crawling. Also, feet are still a hit! I think that’s all for now. :)

A little late on this post, but our baby boy is now half a year old! He’s certainly developed his personality a lot this month, and lil man has an attitude! there’ve been a few really big developmental changes this month.

1.) Sitting!

If he sits for long, he kinda slumps down to a monkey sit, but he holds his balance really well and doesn’t fall to the side unless he finds something interesting and really wants to get to it.

2.) Rolling!

Even though he’s been capable of rolling for a few months now, he hasn’t had much interest in it until recently. Now though, he rolls all over. He’s a lot better at front-to-back than back-to-front and sometimes still gets stuck on his tummy.

3.) Bottom lip.. sucking?

I don’t even know, but it’s his new thing. He’ll suck in his bottom lip when he’s happy/exploratory. It’s so goshdarn cute and yet so hard to take a good picture of.

4.) Night wakings

Still at it. It’s been particularly bad the last 2-3 weeks… we’ve only had 2 nights where he actually slept through. He usually wakes up 2-4 times a night, with 2 being more likely. Once, we were up from 12:30am to 3:30am with 15 minute breaks in between. It’s exhausting, but I’m pretty sure it’s a phase. It might even be his teeth – our pedi warned us they could be coming in shortly.

There’s no crawling yet, even though he can span a considerable distance just rolling around, and we don’t have any syllable babbling yet either, though some ma’s and mama’s have made an appearance. Usually when he’s angry.

We’ve started baby-led weaning and Logan is loving it! While we’ve tried purees in the past and still do occasionally, he just doesn’t love them very much. He loves being able to feed himself and trying new things. So far, he’s especially fond of broccoli, grapes, oranges and carrots. It’s messy, but oh-so-much fun!
