4 month appointment

We survived! With barely a scratch, too. The 4-month appointment went really well. Logan is now 26 inches long and weighs 16lbs 14oz. No wonder the size 2 diapers are getting so tight! Both these measurements were around the 85th to 90th percentile, so we have a perfectly proportionate baby. Just, well, big. His head circumference was 16 3/4 inches, which I think was the 70th percentile. That also means his head is catching up to the rest of his body, since it was at the 50th percentile at the 2-month check up.

The poor guy ended up having to get 3 shots, since we opted out of giving him hepb at birth. We’re now all caught up, though, and the little monkey is done until the 6-month checkup, which will be on May 1st. He actually did really well with his shots, though. He shot us a huge smile right before the first one (not many things can make you feel worse), let out perhaps 3 short cries during/right after, and then was right back to normal. He took a 2-hour nap once we got home, and then was right back to his smiley amazing self.

Phew! Glad that went relatively well. I had the tylenol all ready, but we didn’t need any.

We also got the ok for solids. Our pedi gave us a sheet detailing how we can introduce them and said that Logan looks pretty much ready. We might still wait a few weeks, but it’s on the list of things to do for sure. His night time sleep has gotten a little shorter (down to 7 hours from 8-9), which makes me think that his food isn’t holding him over as long as it used to anymore, so it might just be time to round the next corner.

I’m so glad my baby took the shots well. It’s amazing how much I’ve come to love this little guy since he’s been born. I’m so happy he’s in my life.

2-month appointment

My little snugglebug had his 2-month appointment yesterday.. including shots as you can see in the last post! He’s grown so much since he was just a wee little newborn.. and it shows! At birth, he was 8lbs6oz and 21 1/2 inches long.. at two months old, he clocked in at 13lbs8oz and 23 3/4 inches! Crazy! No wonder he’s in 6-month clothes and size 2 diapers. The doc was very happy with his numbers and most everything else too. We were advised to help L practice looking to the left, as apparently he prefers the right. That was strange to me, as I always catch him turning to the left – daddy sits to the left of me in the office, and TV lights are usually situated to the left of him too; both of which he’s very interested in.

However, he does always try to roll to the right… and when he’s on his tummy, he does prefer to look to the right too, so we’ll encourage both sides more equally. Other than that, his muscles seem to be developing well. He has a little thrush on his tongue, but there’s no need to treat it since I’m not breastfeeding. The doc said it’ll get better on its own in time.

As for the dreaded shots… well. I did give the alternate schedule some thought, but came to the conclusion that he’s going to end up hating trips to the doctors as is… making him go every single month for a shot would definitely not contribute to his love for pediatricians. As is, he only got two shots and an orally administered rotavirus vaccine yesterday – that’s so much better than 4 separate shots. He cried for a few minutes after the shots and we gave him a single dose of tylenol to help him cope with the pain. Within a few minutes of that, he calmed down and was back to his usual happy self within an hour.

He didn’t want to go to bed yesterday and fell asleep a good half hour later than usual, but he also slept straight from 11:30pm until 7:40am. Whoa! 8 hours! That’s got to be a new record. I hope it wasn’t just a fluke.. but we’ll see. :) Regardless, shots were tragic for a good 5 minutes…. and that was the extent of it. No fever, no lingering crankiness – and the two pokes will last until his 4-month appointment. I’m happy with our decision to go through with it.
