This week is all about the Easter Basket. Now, if you’ve been a long time reader you would think I’m big into holidays with the way I celebrate for Halloween, Christmas, or even 3 Kings Day. However, before having my son all those holidays were celebrated without much pomp and circumstance. Easter was a day to go to church dressed a little snazzier than normal and maybe have dinner with extended family. Sometimes there were baskets but it wasn’t the biggest deal in the world. None of the holidays were.
Now? Easter is one of the most important holidays for me. Why? It’s the first holiday after the birth of my son. My son was actually due on Easter of 2014 but came a week early so on Easter he was exactly 1 week old:
That’s my little guy at a week old slumped over in his little easter basket and bringing new meaning to new life on Easter morning. (On a side note- it’s so clear how far my photography and photo editing has come. I’ve got to find the original and try to re-edit it!)
I had actually gotten him an easter present that year- a Bla Bla doll we ended up using for all of his monthly photos- but last year I wanted to celebrate with a lot of fun and different things. He had fun opening them but didn’t really get it. This year, he’s totally going to get it and I think I’ve put together a small list of things I think will be great for learning and having fun!
Welcome to this week’s Easter themed Fave Five!
THIS WEEK’S “FAVE FIVE”
Want/Need: What I want is something I actually haven’t been able to find easily. I’m in search of some toddler friendly plates and bowls that aren’t brightly colored, don’t have partitions, and don’t have cartoon characters on them. I would love Julian to start using simple unbreakable plates that perhaps can blend in well with ours. I love this alphabet plate but even something simpler would be perfect. In the meantime, I may just buy this one and include in his basket.
Wear: I love baby boy’s in Bow Ties and I got one on sale from Beau Hudson (a small shop out in Australia) when Julian was the tiniest of little babes. He’s never actually worn it out so I’m excited to see my big boy looking dapper in his bowtie!
Read: This Fingerprint Book, a suggestion from Simply Learning (go follow her for great activities for kids), is such a fun way to do some art we’ve already been doing on our own but keep it neatly organized. Because I can’t tell you the amount of art we have in all the corners of the house. I keep telling my husband to weed through it but he can’t seem to part with any of it! The struggle is real!!
I think this is going to be a real treat in his Easter basket this year!
Eat: Meyer Lemon everything!! I made a Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette to toss into my grilled veggie quinoa salad I made this week, I made this meyer lemon green shake, and I also used the zest to top my lentil toast. What can I say? I’m obsessed!! I’m going to be making a meyer lemon yogurt cake for Easter… if I can keep a few of them until then!!
Play: I bought a few homemade colored and scented play-dough tins from ZDough. Now, you may remember that I made a great batch around the holidays that was also colored and scented but here’s the deal: I tried to make it 2 more times since and it was a disaster. The dough was gritty the first time then oily the next. Any attempt at saving it just caused heartache and, frankly, a huge mess. I was kind of over it and figured one successful ball of dough was enough. That is until said ball of dough was accidentally left out on the kitchen butcher’s block and we didn’t realize it until daaaays later. When we stumbled upon the rock my husband said we’d just have to make some more. Nuh-uh!! Enter ZDough!
I’ve known about their company for some time (again, thanks to Simply Learning– seriously go follow her and thank me later!) but have never really had a reason to purchase from them. Well Easter provided the perfect opportunity to give them a chance. They just shipped out a day or two ago so I can’t tell give you my opinion yet but from all their reviews I don’t think I’ll be disappointed! We got some fun scents (caramel apple, blueberry, eucalyptus, and black cherry) so I think this is a gift for me too!!
That’s this week’s Fave Five! What’s going to be in your babe’s Easter Baskets??
