Isn’t it so amazing how much can change in a year. This time last year I was frantically editing photos for a video slideshow I was doing for Julian’s 1st birthday. I was spending my evenings crafting and obsessing over the tiniest of details that I was sure everyone wouldn’t even notice (some did, some didn’t- such is life). And while I don’t regret the effort I put into his birthday party (it was truly a special day) I’m just amazed at the difference a year makes and where we are today as opposed to where we were last year.
However, I am a planner and planning is still a must. I’ve spent a good part of the week figuring out meals, snacks, and activities for our very long flight and I’m going to spend the next week executing on those plans. I’m also planning out itineraries and thinking of ways I can make Julian’s birthday stand out even more. I guess in a lot of ways, somethings never change.
I can’t believe Easter has passed and now we’re in Spring!! Most importantly, I can’t believe I almost forgot to do our seasonal family update!! It’s definitely going to be at the top of my list of to-do’s this weekend, along with cooking a meal for my in-laws and finding the time to recharge.
But for now, I’ve got a lot of cool things to share in this week’s Fave Five, so let’s get to it!
THIS WEEK’S “FAVE FIVE”
Want/Need: Like I mentioned, I’ve been researching and aggregating ideas for our upcoming travel. I’ve been using my absolute favorite resource to keep me organized: Pinterest!! Click that link or the pic below to follow along. Also, let me know if there are any posts or recipes I missed which will make our trip just a little more smooth!
Wear: April showers bring soggy wet grounds and chances for us to jump into all the puddles! We rely HEAVILY on our Hunter’s this time of year. I found them on sale thanks to Thrifty Littles (you should go follow her on IG ASAP! The deals she posts are too good to miss!!) and thanks to the generous sizing he shouldn’t need another pair for another year or so!
Read: I rarely buy books anymore (except for kids books, of course) but after reading the synopsis and praise for Parenting with Purpose by Nina V. Garcia (not the fashion icon),I knew I had to buy it. I’ve only gotten through a few pages but already am finding it so insightful. I love that the chapters are a few pages long so I can do a chapter a night to unwind and get a fresh perspective on my parenting decisions. You guys already know how important it is for me to parent intentionally so this just helps to reinforce and refresh some of my decisions.
Eat: After making that Black Bean soup earlier this week, we all loved it so much that I’m making it again as soon as I can! I’m also making skillet meals a weekly must. First off, it was delicious, but most importantly the clean up was just that one pan! Nothing better than that!!
Play: Before I tell you what Julian’s been loving this week I want to say how happy I am that I added this section to this weekly update because out of everything that changes on a weekly basis with Julian, one of the biggest is his interests. I love looking back and remembering the weeks we spent our entire days reading the Maps book or going through piles of flashcards.
This week it’s all about the stickers! Whether they be animal stickers to remind him of the zoo or reusable stickers stuck that get stuck everywhere around the house, this kid is OBSESSED with stickers right now. Here are a few he’s loving specifically:
Melissa & Doug’s Habitats Reusable Sticker Book : We actually have 2 of these and I’m planning to cut one down for plane travel. Sometimes we use the stickers to make scenes, sometimes we use it to discuss colors or quantities or habitats (as intended), and sometimes they join us for reading times (and end up in the books as bookmarks.
We also have this reusable Charlie Harper book which I don’t looooove (because they’re not reusable stickers) but he loves Charlie Harper so it’s been a must around the house.
These tiny Dover Books have been such a big hit this week! I included them in his Easter basket somewhat as a fun filler but they’ve really stood out on their own. And at $1.50 a pop, you really can’t go wrong!!
So that’s our Fave Five this week. What are you loving??
