For the first time since becoming a mom, I was sick enough to warrant my husband staying home to watch our son. While laying in bed for an extra few hours did wonders for my body, I woke up wracked with guilt. Now, I’m not a martyr but something is wrong when I’m spending any of my mental energies feeling any guilt over not being a supermom for a day. Luckily, I have an awesome community who helped to remind me that everyone needs a day off to recharge. That helped me feel infinitely better. Well, that and about half a dozen bags of Tazo Passion Tea. Have you guys tried that stuff? It’s been my go-to tea for about 4 years now and its safe to say I’m obsessed!!
Besides that midweek hiccup it’s been a fantastic week filled with so many firsts. We’ve got a sentence speaker in our home who this week said: “Help-me-peease-Mama”, and I pretty much melted into a total puddle. It did cross my mind that one day he won’t ask, or want, or need my help, so as much as I’m all about independence, I couldn’t help but get close to him and help him peel his little clementine. It’s those quiet little moments where we’re close and the whole world kind of fades away and we’re working together to accomplish something that mean the most to me. Those are the best moments.
I am officially in need of a warm weekend and I don’t think I’ll be disappointed (if the weather report is to be trusted). But even more than walking out without a huge coat, I’m most excited about seeing Julian run around and play in the park which has been off limits the past few weeks. I can’t imagine all he’ll be able to do, and I won’t have to for much longer- the weekend is here, my friends!! Let’s get right into this week’s “Fave Five”!
This Week’s “Fave Five”
Want/Need: Are you a fan of Oh Joy!? Her work always makes me feel happy and she has a fantastic eye for style! This week she posted a photo of these mountains and I just knew they would be perfect for my son’s train board we built him for Christmas. His birthday is just around the corner so I’ve got my eyes open for great gift ideas, especially cost effective gifts (these are only $16, are handmade by a small shop, and are heirloom quality!).
Wear: Last weekend I received my first month of RocksBox and I was pumped. Do you know about RocksBox? They’re a service that send you curated jewelry boxes each month for only $19! I was excited to try them because when I became a mom I stopped wearing jewelry both out of laziness, and out of necessity (I can’t tell you how many necklace/earring incidents we had during our early nursing days… ouch!). I won’t share the photos just yet but will say this particular necklace from Gorjana is a fave!
If you want to receive a FREE MONTH of RocksBox you’re in luck! Just visit www.rocksbox.com and put in the code: thisishowimomdotcomxoxo for a free month!
Read: Julian has been obsessed with this Maps book that he got for Christmas. To be honest, we bought it more for us because, have you seen this book? It’s so goooorgeous! I just want to snuggle up with my honey and learn all about Poland, or Peru, or other places that begin with P! The art is spectacular and we love how informative it is. Well apparently those are the things that have made my son fall in love with the book as well because he can’t put it down. He even woke up this week asking for his “ma-book”. His favorite country is Brazil which he pronounces with surprising accuracy. Right now Amazon is selling the book for $19 (usually it’s $35), and it’s the same price we got it at (I’ve never seen it for lower).
Eat: If you follow along with me on Instagram you know I’ve been digging this Asparagus Pesto on pretty much everything all week. Want the recipe? Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter because the recipe goes out later today!
Play: I bought this 12-pack of blank puzzle pieces to make a craft for my husband when we first got married (I mentioned we were a crafty gift giving couple here). I found the remaining 11 way back in our closet and decided to incorporate it into our weekly crafts with Julian. It’s been really great not just for teaching the basics of jigsaw puzzling, but also for some quiet coloring time just before his mid-day nap. Also, with all the art projects I end up throwing out at the end of every month, this one feels like a keepsake. Kind of hard to beat for $14!!
So that’s this week’s Fave Five! What have you been loving this week??
